My 1st show!
September 22, 1999: Backstreet Boys
The Fleetcenter, Boston, MA
I still remember this night so clearly, even though it was 10 YEARS ago. Wow.
This was the very first concert I went to. This was 1999, when pop music ruled the world. The Backstreet Boys had released their album "Millennium" and "I Want it That Way" ruled the radio airwaves. This was the PEAK of the BSB hysteria, and I was 12 and OBSESSED. I listened to their CD every single day. Me and Sarah were definitely their "number 1 fans."
I convinced my mom to get me tickets to their show and she took me, Sarah and Haley. Unfortunately I actually obeyed the rules of the venue and didn't bring a camera to the show. Still the biggest regret of my life.
We had 10TH ROW SEATS!!!! The show was so cool-- round stage, more pyro than 4th of July, and a stage full of dancers busting out awesome choreographed moves all night long. Another funny thing I remember is that I didn't know that there were "opening acts"... some band EYC opened for them and we were so annoyed by them. Haha!
So the moment that the Backstreet Boys rose from this magical box, flying on surfboards and wearing blue "armor"... we FREAKED OUT! Sarah sort of half-fainted (Haley caught her though) and I was having some screaming/crying moment. Oh we were such teenies.
My FAVORITE moment of the night, that I remember SO clearly is when they sang my FAVORITE SONG of all time, "No One Else Comes Close." AJ started the song, singing, "when we turned off the lights" and he snapped his fingers and the lights dimmed. O-M-G. I was totally in love with him, and this moment took my breath away.
Here's a VIDEO of my moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bn8BW9UlwbQ
I never wanted the show to end, and this officially started my concert obsession!
